My night with Dances of Vice

This past Saturday, I was itching to get out of the house but couldn't decide what I wanted to do. I had received an email from NOB (not only Brooklyn), which is a wonderful listing of events taking place mainly in Brooklyn (but not only). If you'd like to be added to their mailing list, drop me a line and I'll send you instructions.

Anyhoo. One of the listings was for a party by the "Dances of Vice" which was taking place at the Montauk club. The Montauk club is a gorgeous Venetian style building that I've walked by on many occasions and wondered what was inside, so here was my chance to check out the space. The Dances of Vice party was billed as Dark Victorian evening with a tribute to the ThreePenny Opera.

When I arrived, I was amazed by the crowd. Everyone was dressed to the nines. Women in vintage gowns with bustles. Men in top hats and tails. Dark gothic outfits and flappers from the twenties. It was a photographer's dream.

So I grabbed my camera, and started shooting. Everyone was happy to pose for me and I was truly inspired by what I was seeing through my viewfinder.

Some of the images just screamed out for some sepia and hand painting and those are the shots I'm showing here.
